Apparitions of Our Blessed Mother Mary

Painting of Mary

Our Blessed Mother Mary. The chosen mother of God. Known by more than 40 names to which her most common include: "The Virgin Mary," "The Lady of the Rosary," "The Immaculate Conception," "The Mother of God," and "The Queen of Peace," she is the woman who was summoned by the Archangel Gabriel for the purpose of obtaining her approval to accept God's chosen plan for her: To conceive and give birth to a boy named, Jesus, or "Yeshua", as he would have been called in his native Aramaic language. This meeting between Gabriel and Mary is referred to as "the annunciation." The decision to give her approval represents the beginning of the events leading up to the start of the new covenant between God and his people. Following the annunciation, Jesus was conceived by immaculate conception through the Holy Spirit, directly into her womb. A difficult concept for some to believe is that Jesus, then, is an entity that is both divine (the Son of God) and human (the son of Mary), simultaneously.

Taking a closer look at the annunciation as written in the Gospel of Luke (1:26-38): 26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” 34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[a] the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.” 38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

Map of European Marian Apparitions Map of Worldly Marian Apparitions

As eluded to above, the new convenant began following the passion of Jesus, which ended in his crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension into heaven. It is a common misconception, even among Christians, that humanity would no longer have the opportunity to interact with either Jesus or our Blessed Mother (following her eventual assumption into heaven). However, unbeknownst to many of us, this is actually not the case. There are individuals throughout history, in fact MANY individuals, who have seen and/or heard the voice ("locution") and experienced apparitions with our Blessed Mother and our Lord Jesus Christ. For the purpose of this webpage, the focus will be Marian apparitions. If you would like to learn more about interactions with Jesus, see my UPCOMING WEBPAGE.

In fact, daily apparitions of Our Blessed Mother continue to this day in a small town in Bosnia-Herzegovina called Medjugorje. I know what you are wondering...why, if this is happening, have I not heard of it?! Something of such importance, involving the very reason for our being, surely should be attentively broadcast around the world! At least, that is what one might expect.

This is where the reason for this webpage comes in. My name is Victor and I intend to reach as many people as I am able, to spread the news. To begin, it might be best to provide you with an understanding of the frequency of apparitions which have occurred over the past millennia. Take a look at the maps above to give you a better picture of how many claims of interactions there are. Below, I will provide you with a bit more detail of a small number of these apparitions for a closer look. By no means is this an all-inclusive list. When studying this table, one must keep in mind that not all have been approved by the church as legitimate. Some, however, do not truly require approval in order for any logical individual to understand that something miraculous has occurred - noting manifestations that can only be attributed to those very claims of divine Marian interactions.

Pilar Given to St. James in an Apparition with her

Zaragoza, Spain

On October 12, 40 A.D., the Virgin Mary appeared to the apostle James while he was evangelizing Jesus in modern day Spain. Following some difficult times, James prayed for help. Our Mother Mary came to his rescue in an apparition where she reassured him that his mission would not end in defeat; the people of Hispania would be converted. She asked that a church be built using the pillar on which she stood and a statue that she gave to St. James (see photo pictured here). Both were to be used as part of the alter for this new church in her honor, the first known Marian shrine in history. The pillar and statue are on display today at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragoza, Spain.

Guadalupe, Mexico

On December 9, 10, and 12 in 1531, Our Lady appeared to Juan Diego, an Aztec Indian in Guadalupe, Mexico. She came to offer faith and hope to the oppressed natives of Mexico and to reconcile them with their Spanish rulers. Upon ending her apparition with Juan, she left an imprint of her image on his tilma (cloak). Since this time, the tilma has been subject to extensive scientific testing. Upon examination, the following is found:
